About this coin

Morgan Dollar

Designed by George T. Morgan, the Morgan dollar was struck from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921 at the Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City and Denver mints.

Each coin contains 0.7734 troy oz of pure silver, which sets the floor value shown here. Many dates are worth more than melt to collectors, especially Carson City ("CC") coins, key dates and uncirculated examples.

Morgan Dollar: FAQ

How much is a Morgan Dollar worth today?

Based on today's silver price (13 Oct 2026), the silver in a Morgan Dollar is worth about $45.96, or ₹5,069 at the Indian market rate. This is the melt value. Dealers and jewellers sell above it and usually buy slightly below it.

How much silver is in a Morgan Dollar?

A Morgan Dollar weighs 26.73 g at 90% purity, so it contains 24.06 g of pure silver (0.7735 troy oz).

Is a Morgan Dollar worth more than its silver value?

Usually, yes: bullion and collectible coins sell at a premium over melt value because of minting, distribution and collector demand. Common, circulated coins trade close to melt, while rare dates, mint marks and high grades can be worth much more.

How do I know if I'm paying a fair price?

Enter the seller's price into the premium checker above. It compares the quote with the live metal value and shows the premium as a percentage. Compare that percentage between sellers before you buy.
